HOW TO KEEP YOUR JEWELRY LOOKING NICE AND CLEAN

HOW TO KEEP YOUR JEWELRY LOOKING NICE AND CLEAN

Jewelry looks best if you look after it. The more you wear it, the more you’ll need to clean it. That’s why Jane Kønig has created a guide with tips and tricks on how to best care for and clean your jewelry, so that it stays nice and clean.

Jewelry needs maintenance, so it’s important to look after it and wear it with care.

5 tips for caring for your jewelry

  1. Always remove your jewelry before bed
  2. Remove your jewelry when you wash your hands, take a bath, do the cleaning, exercise, etc.
  3. When you’re not wearing your jewelry, we recommend that you store it in a sealed cloth bag, plastic bag or similar, to avoid oxidisation.
  4. Clean your jewelry regularly. Use a soft cloth, a neutral cleaning agent and lukewarm water. NB. Keep your pearl jewelry away from washing up detergent and perfume as it will lose its shine.
  5. Jewelry should be the last addition in your daily beauty routine, as perfume, make-up, hairspray, lotion and oils can all damage the jewelry’s plating.

How to preserve gilding on your jewelry

Gold-plated jewelry will fade over time, and this can’t be avoided. This is entirely natural because jewelry suffers from wear and tear every time we wear it. Gold-plating only sits on the surface of sterling silver jewelry, and when the jewelry becomes worn, the silver colour will start to emerge. So the better you look after your jewelry, the longer the plating will last. It’s hard to say exactly how long gold plating lasts for.

Some jewelry becomes worn more than others, and therefore suffers more wear and tear – rings are more exposed than earrings, for example. Another factor that impacts durability is the PH value of your skin, and the products you use day to day. That’s why it’s important to follow the above guide for keeping your jewelry nice and clean.

At Jane Kønig, we will gladly re-plate your jewelry – the price depends on what type of jewelry you need re-plated. Please contact our customer service or one of our stores for further information.
