Maintenance and care

Maintenance of Jane Kønig jewelley
Most of Jane Kønig's jewellery is made of sterling silver 925s, coated with 18-carat gold, pink gold or rhodium. Jewellery needs maintenance, and to extend the shelf life of the coating, it is recommended that you take care of your jewellery and wear it carefully. In everyday use we recommend that you follow these tips:

Always take the jewellery off before you go to bed.

Avoid washing your hands with the jewellery on and always take it off before showering, bathing, cleaning, playing sports, etc.

When not wearing the jewellery, it is recommended that you keep the jewellery in a sealed cloth bag, plastic bag or similar. In this way you avoid oxidation of the jewellery.

Clean the jewellery regularly. For this, use a soft cloth, neutral detergent and warm water. Keep your pearl items away from detergent and perfume as they will lose their lustre.

The jewellery should be put on as the last step in your daily beauty routine. Perfume, make-up, hairspray, lotions and oils can all damage the coating on the jewellery.

We also advise our sales staff to share this information with their customers.

Oxidation
Silver jewellery tarnishes over time, which takes the form of dark coloured spots. This is a natural process and is therefore not a complaint.

You can clean the jewellery with warm water, a soft toothbrush and neutral detergent. If the piece is still oxidised, you can dip it in liquid silver cleaner for max. 5 sec. Then rinse the piece in water and polish with a soft, dry cloth. The process can be repeated, but never leave your jewellery in the cleaning fluid for longer than prescribed, as silver jewellery with coating may fade. Note that silver cleaner is available in well-stocked supermarkets.

If the jewellery oxidises within 14 days, please contact us on tel. +45 33 15 86 87 (key 1) or send an email to service@janekoenig.dk

Clasp guide:
It is important to treat Jane Kønigs's decorative 'S' clasp properly. When opening and closing the 'S' clasp, gently twist the clasp to the side and not up or down. This will prevent the silver from wearing and breaking. It is also important to double-check that the clasp is closed completely to avoid losing either the pendant or the chain itself. We also attach a guide on how to treat the 'S' clasp with all shipments.
