‘Souvenir’ was originally a French word and means ‘memory’. Souvenir is also the title of Jane Kønig’s High Summer 2020 collection. For the Souvenir collection, Jane drew her inspiration from the tiny quirky objects and souvenirs she associates with special places and events in her life: the memories of an unforgettable holiday, a beloved family member who has passed away or a long-lost love. Now, Jane Kønig is sharing these memories by launching a collection, in which she has captured the memories in beautiful, unique jewellery.
“Life contains an endless abundance of experiences and stories. These experiences are part of our personal stories, and people’s unique tales have always piqued my curiosity. I love exploring new cultures and environments. Meeting new people is a privilege. I collect experiences and treasure them in my heart. I am always collecting souvenirs to remind me of these experiences and encounters. They can be anything from seashells I collected on a beach to crazy thingamajigs that remind me of moods and people I’ve met. The idea of the Souvenir collection is for people to have their memories and stories with them every day. And if my jewellery kindles new stories and memories, as a goldsmith I couldn’t ask for more.”
The collection is rather unpretentious, featuring playful, coloured bracelets and seashells evoking the freedom of beach life. Yet there is also a profound, implicit sophistication: for example, in the subdued elegance of mother of pearl. Meanwhile, the countless delicate details are suffused with stories: for example, the lovely medallion, which enables the person wearing it to store their most precious memories next to their heart.
